Waviness Affects Friction and Abrasive Wear

چکیده
Abstract Abrasive wear can have a detrimental effect on machinery, especially in the mining and construction industries. To prolong machinery lifetime cut down energy consumption, thorough understanding of abrasive is essential: surface topography measurement interpretation (including form, waviness, roughness) are vitally important. However, potentially crucial influence intricacies tribological behavior has been obscured since roughness waviness considered simple scalar quantities most cases (e.g., R W t ). In this work, complete profile sliding track was used to shed light wear. Bearing steel (100Cr6, AISI 52100) pins disks were tribologically tested flat-on-flat contact with Al 2 O 3 -based slurries as interfacial medium. Using two different particle sizes, 5 13 μm, we found that friction fluctuates only small particles (5-µm slurry) relatively low disks. It even deviations (albeit minimized controlled for) significantly increase coefficient—up 91%. Remarkably, not frictional fluctuations strongly correlated disk’s initial profile, but these correlate unevenly distributed high These findings enhance our structure provide basis for exploring how surfaces be optimized better performance. Modelling Friction and Abrasive Wear of Elastomers
In order to properly model the friction and wear of elastomer materials, it is essential to understand some specific mechanical and tribological features. Mechanical characteristics of elastomer materials are different from those of metals and other relatively hard materials. Elastomers can bear large deformations, the stress-strain curves are non-linear, time and temperature dependent. When th...
متن کاملNanoscale friction and wear maps.
Friction and wear are part and parcel of all walks of life, and for interfaces that are in close or near contact, tribology and mechanics are supremely important. They can critically influence the efficient functioning of devices and components. Nanoscale friction force follows a complex nonlinear dependence on multiple, often interdependent, interfacial and material properties. Various studies...
متن کاملAlbumin Protein Cleavage Affects the Wear and Friction of Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene
It is well established that the total protein concentration and albumin-to-globulin ratio influence the wear of ultra-high molecular polyethylene (UHMWPE, "polyethylene") in joint prostheses. A factor on wear not yet studied, but of possible clinical relevance, is protein cleavage. Such cleavage is expected in the presence of an inflammatory response and as a result of wear processes at the art...
متن کاملEffect of Abrasive Particle Size on Abrasive Wear Resistance in Otomotive Steels
If one of the surfaces which are in touch is rough and hard, it chips the other surface due to relative motion or touching forces. The wear is called two-body abrasive wear. If there are free abrasive particles between the two bodies, the wear is called three-body abrasive wear. The free abrasive particles may be external material dust or the remains of chipping. Usually, the wear starts as a t...
